F/W Trend: Super Dark Lips

(Pictured Above: Chanel Iman)

I'm sure you've all seen lipsticks in dark shades of red, plum, and purple- even black! Just about every cosmetic line seems to be putting out these dark, rich shades. These shades can sure look gorgeous but they are so tricky to wear! Dark lipsticks have to be applied perfectly so I would suggest definitely using a matching lip pencil, it can make the application process a little easier.

Love the trend of dark lips but want something a little less severe? Try one of the many lip gloss options!

Here are some great lipstick options:

Chanel Hysteria Lipstick: This is a dark, reddish purple color that has a slightly glossy finish
MAC Hipster Lipstick (From the MAC Trend F/W Collection)- a dark burgundy with red shimmer
MAC Faultlessly (From the MAC Trend F/W Collection)- An extremely dark purple with very creamy finish.

Lip Glosses:

Smashbox Lip Enhancing Gloss in Sultry: A gorgeous black cherry color
MAC New Berry Lipglass: A Deep plum cream gloss
MAC So This Season: Deep Blue Violet cream gloss

The lipsticks that are so dark are much easier to apply with a lip brush. That makes it a little easier to get a precise application. Has anyone tried the dark lip trend yet? Are you itching to try it? Have you purchased or checked out any of the dark lip colors? What have you tried?? I'd love to hear your thoughts or your own tips! L’oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara Review

This has been a pretty anticipated addition to the world of mascaras. I've actually gotten a number of e-mails asking me if I've tried it out and what my thoughts were. Many of you probably recognize the brush....Givenchy Phenonmen Eyes Mascara first came out with the spherical shaped brush. The biggest difference?? The price!

L’oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara: About $10
Givenchy Phenomen Eyes Mascara: $28

I've tried both mascaras and to be totally honest, I wasn't absolutely IN LOVE with either one. I did find L'oreal's formula slightly less clumpy but that was the biggest issue for me. After the first coat, it started to get really clumpy. Even though I combed through my lashes multiple times, It still didn't look as great as I was hoping. It did lengthen my lashes and added some volume. The best part of the mascara is definitely the brush...the spherical brush makes it alot easier to reach every lash and help fan them out. To minimize clumping, try wiping the mascara wand on a tissue to remove excess product.

Of course, every product works differently for each individual but I had high expectations for L’oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara and they weren't quite met. I did like it and think it's a very good mascara especially for the price. If you decide to try it (or already have), let me know what you think!!!

I'm absolutely loving the Barbie Loves Stila collection (Available at Sephora). The whole collection is really wearable but super playful and girly as well. I'm also a big Barbie fan-I had an enormous collection when I was a little girl. But don't worry, this makeup is not for little girls!

My favorite item from the collection is definitely the eyeshadow palette, but I'm loving the Smudge Pots too. I could take or leave the glosses, they're a tad too sticky for my tastes but they're quite pretty colors. Let me know what you think of this collection and if you've tried any!

Beauty Tips and Tricks

Who couldn't use a few beauty tips here and there? I know I love them! Fall is a great season to try out some new beauty trends or something you don't normally wear. If you're going out, give yourself a little extra time to get ready and try something unusual or totally different for you...don't like it? You'll have time to remove it and go back to something you're comfortable with!

Here are some pretty and easy beauty tips that are perfect for the Fall Season!:

1) In a rush? Swipe on a hot pink, plum or true red lip gloss. An eye catching lip color instantly brightens up your face and looks more polished.

2) Copper eye shadows are flattering on any eye color or skin tone. Use paler copper shades for fair skin tones and darker coppers or bronze for deeper skin tones.

3) Having trouble with lifeless looking hair? Deep Condition! Deep conditioning your hair once a week or once every other week (if you have oilier hair) gives hair a boost and restores some shine and bounce to over styled, over processed locks.

4) Experiment with color! Sure, there are plenty of makeup "rules" but often times, the beauty icons we love and adore are rule breakers. Some beauty "don't's" can be beauty "do's" for some women, but you'll never know if you don't experiment now and then! After all, individuality should apply to your beauty style as well as your fashion style!

5) Try out some eye opening (or eye catching) fake lashes. They can transform any look and really bring out your eyes. Sometimes, an eye look just doesn't look complete without falsies! (I'm LOVING IEnvy Lashes by Kiss- Available at Duane Reade this September for $3.49) Have trouble applying falsies? Check out my How to Use False Lashes article for some really helpful tips!

6) Do you have oily skin? Try a cleansing oil. Don't let it scare you! The oil based cleanser actually does a fantastic job of breaking down the dirt and oil on the skin without stripping it of moisture. We never want to strip oily skin because it will only make our skin create more oil.

The best beauty tip of all? Have fun with it! Makeup should be enjoyable not a chore! What are some of your personal favorite beauty tips you've learned throughout the years??

Too Faced Contest Info....

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to let everyone know I've extended the time limit for the Too Faced palette contest until Oct. 30th. I actually made a mistake to being with and put it up for the wrong amount of time so that's just a slight change there. Sorry about that!

But I'll be announcing a giveaway for October (probably be posting it around
Sept. 30th) too so we'll be having a couple of contests going on at the same time. Just wanted to let you know about the date change! I hope everyone is doing well and having a wonderful week so far!

Don't forget, I love hearing from you so if you want to send me an e-mail (questions, comments, or just want to say hi!) feel free! It may take me a little while to respond but I will!

Senna Cosmetics: Baby Face 21 Brush

Makeup brushes come in all shapes, sizes, styles and prices. I still meet women who don't even own one brush (which admittedly still shocks me a bit) or only one or two. Personally, I love having quality brushes because I feel they make a big difference in the way your makeup goes on and the way it looks. Sure, there are brushes that are on the market that aren't really necessary (but still may be nice to have).

Senna Cosmetic's Baby Face 21 is an adorable, incredibly soft bristled brush that has several uses. I've played around with it and used it in multiple ways for both the face and eyes.

-One of my favorite uses is applying my highlighting powder with it. It's absolutely perfect for that! It's the perfect size to apply just the right amount along the tops of your cheekbones, bottom of the chin and straight down the nose.

- I also use it to apply blotting powder to my t-zone to ward of shine. It's not big and puffy like alot of "face" brushes so the powder doesn't go everywhere, just where you want it.

- It's also great for applying a light application of blush-especially along the cheekbones!

- This brush is also a good one to apply a base eye shadow or apply a brow highlighter.

- Shadow fall out? Use the Baby Face 21 to sweep it away! It's the perfect size to fit under the eye. Just get some translucent powder on your brush and sweep away any shadow fall out from your under eye area!

The quality of this brush is wonderful! It's soft and gentle and it's going to give you a great finish in whatever you use it for. It's definitely a unique brush and one you'd probably have a hard time finding one that's very similar to it. I use it practically everyday and love it!

Price: $25.00
