What's In for Spring!

(Picture above: A gorgeous look from Smashbox's Muse Spring 2009 collections: Green & Gold Eyes)

Ah! Spring is near! Each new season brings with it new fashions and makeup trends. I'm sure many of us are eager for Spring for a host of reasons but let's get excited for the new makeup looks, colors and trends! Here are some great makeup ideas for Spring!

1)Spring is all about blended, soft looks so now would be the time to stray away from looks with harsh lines. Try a very blended heavier liner on the bottom lash line in gray, green, bronze, or navy.

2) Try gorgeous shades of pink and peach for cheeks. Experiment and maybe go a little bit brighter than your usual.

3) One trend that looks great this season is using a shimmery nude shadow and pair it with black mascara and a bright pink, red, or berry lip gloss. Add a bit of apricot blush and you'll look radiant!

4) Go Bright! Spring is the perfect time to try bright colors for eyes, cheeks, and lips! Purples, greens, pinks, corals and blues look incredible!

5) Dewy, healthy, glowing skin is in for Spring. Try mixing an illuminating tinted moisturizer with your foundation or using a luminous foundation primer to give your skin that "angel" effect!

6) For a change, switch your black mascara out for a colored one. There are great color options in all price ranges. If you don't want to be too daring, just layer a colored mascara over your normal brown or black:-)

7) Go for the gold! Gold shadows, lipsticks and glosses with gold flecks in it, and gold highlighters look so beautiful!

8) Try mixing bright shadows with gorgeous metallic shadows for a real dramatic, playful look.

9) One of my favorite spring colors for makeup is the amazing shades of lavender and lilac seen in all forms this spring. Clothes, shadows and lipsticks. (Try lipsticks likeLavender Whip by MAC or Fashion Mews from the Hello Kitty collection by MAC- They're incredible colors for Spring!)

10) Soft neutrals and pastel colors are a big trend as well and can work for so many different occasions. (I love the gorgeous Muse Artist Eye Palette by Smashbox!)

So have fun this spring and be playful-that includes your makeup! Makeup is fun, so above all, remember that being creative and having fun with makeup is the most important rule of all! Don't forget to enter the 88 Shimmer Palette Giveaway! There are perfect spring colors in that palette and you can create dozens of different looks with it! Just click on the top link at the right and comment, being sure to leave your e-mail address. That's all it takes to enter! Contest winner will be announced on Feb. 28th!

What Type of Foundation Should I Use?

( Pictured Above: Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation: An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. Available at Sephora.)

Alot of Women struggle with finding the proper foundation for their skin type and coverage needs. Foundation seems to be a tricky part of makeup so I thought I'd explain a little bit about different foundation types and what they do and what skin types they're best suited. If anyone has any questions on anything, please be sure to e-mail me!

Liquid Foundation: This foundation is, in my opinion, by for the easiest foundation to use. It's extremely easy to blend and if you match it correctly to your skin tone it will blend right into the skin and look flawless. If your skin needs medium coverage- liquid foundation is a good choice for you. There are various formulas made for dry, oily, and aging skin types.

Tinted Moisturizer: Great if you want very minimal, light coverage and moisture. There are some great formulas that also add a beautiful glow and luminosity to the skin. Find one with SPF in it and you're set.

Spray Foundation: This foundation usually provides very buildable medium to full coverage and lasts throughout the day. It's supposed to provide an airbrushed finish. It especially good for dry skin or normal to combination skin. It can work for all skin types though. This foundation can be trickier to apply so I suggest dabbing it on with a makeup sponge.

Cream Foundation: Great for women who have drier skin and need a bit fuller coverage. Women with oily skin should steer clear of thicker, cream foundations.

Mineral/Powder Foundation: Very good choice for women with a more sensitive skin type that is on the oily or normal/combination side. Has buildable light-medium coverage.

I hope this helps anyone who struggles with what type of foundation they should use or try. You can always go to your nearest MAC, Clinique or any other makeup counter and have one of the very helpful artists match you up to just the right foundation type and color. There's one out there for everyone, you've just got to find it so don't give up!

Also, don't forget to enter the contest. It ends Feb. 28th!(Top link on the sidebar to the right!)
I'm already looking forward to March's contest:-) Keep checking back for that to be announced after the winner is chosen at random on the 28th! Thank you everyone and have a wonderful day!! I hope everyone's weekend is going great!

NY Fashion Week + Barbie's 50th Anniversary= Incredible!

There is nothing that I can think of that represents my girlhood and probably plenty of other girl's than Barbie! Well, Barbie is 50! What better way to celebrate NY Fashion Week --and Barbie's 50th than to have one big, amazing, Barbie themed runway show! Well, there probably isn't a better way! By now, we know that Barbie loves MAC and Stila....what else? Couture Fashion of course!!!

This fashion show stood out to me more than any other at NY Fashion week so far not just for the various designer garments but also because of the sense of fun! (Okay, I admit, I've always been a huge fan of Barbie-I've always been that girl-the girly girl, hehe. ) Check out some of my favorite shots and see for yourself. Product Preview: Olay Professional Pro X Products

The smart people at Olay have been at it again, coming up with new products to help in the never ending fight in the anti-aging wars. Our newest ally in the fight would be their Olay Professional Pro X.

I tried their kit which contains the following:
Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30 [1.0 fl oz (30 ml)].
Wrinkle Smoothing Cream [1.0 oz (28 g)].
Eye Restoration Complex [0.3 fl oz (9 ml)].

You can pick this starter kit up for approximately $58.99 - $62.99 in stores such as Wal-Mart, Target etc and you’ll get a nice little bang for your buck. I used the products on clean skin, like this. The age repair (which is reported to be good for UV exposure, Skin dryness and Fine lines and wrinkle) lotion goes on clean skin every morning, followed by the Eye Restoration Complex which the company tells us will also help skin’s dryness, Crow’s feet, dark circles and eye puffiness. The night time Regimen includes the wrinkle Smoothing Cream (good for alleviating skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture) followed again with the Eye Restoration Complex. Following this routine for about two weeks should show you marked improvement in your skin if you had any of the above mentioned issues, although I would add these products would be a good addition to your beauty routine regardless because of their helpfulness with UV exposure.

As for my personal findings, I enjoyed the rich, creamy consistency of each of the products. They all went on smoothly and felt good going on my face. They weren’t sticky or goopy, nor did they feel like they sucked in so fast that I felt like a giant sponge creature inhabiting the bathroom. They had a slightly herbal smell which I prefer to the slightly medicinal retinol-type products that claim similar results.

I tend to have dryer skin in the cheek/under eye area, and I found that I remained a little dry in that area, so had to add a little moisturizer to that area under my make-up, but that would not deter me from using these products. Anyway, overall, after the trial period, my skin felt very soft and generally, better than it did before I started using the products. I would definitely give them a thumbs up and would recommend them to anyone who might be concerned with smoothing any fine lines or wrinkles that might be starting. The fact that the size products in the starter kit are all 1 oz or under, make them perfect for travel too, a nice perk.

Product Review: L'Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Moisture Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner

I color my hair fairly regularly and it can take it's toll on my hair. Well, I tried both the L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Shampoo and L'Oreal Paris EverPure Moisture Conditioner for about two weeks now and fell in love with it. The shampoo is amazing-it lathers like no other sulfate free shampoo I've ever tried. This conditioner is quite rich and creamy but doesn't ever leave my hair weighed down or oily. My hair was very soft and quite shiny after the very first use. They are not only high quality products, they're very affordable!

The scent is very organic and pretty (Rosemary, Juniper and mint) and it's quite refreshing. Both the shampoo and conditioner have replaced my old shampoo and conditioner. I have washed my hair everyday for two weeks and have noticed absolutely no hair color fading. This hair care system is sulfate free and 100% vegan. Nothing harsh or damaging in these products! I'm officially a fan and am looking forward to scoping out the other products in this line. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who colors their hair.

There are 3 different lines of products: Moisture, Smooth, and Volume.

Product Prices:

Moisture Shampoo: $6.99
Moisture Conditioner: $6.99
Moisture Deep Restorative Mask: $8.99
Moisture Leave in Conditioner: $8.99

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day! Also, if you haven't entered the contest head over and comment! It's fast and easy to enter!

Hello Kitty Product Pictures and Swatches

Above from left to right: Too Dolly Palette, Strayin', Fashion Mews, Most Popular

Hey guys! So I went yesterday to check out the Hello Kitty collection and I ended up purchasing the products that I really loved. (This post might have a part II to it coming next week) I purchased the Too Dolly quad and 3 lipstick which I'm in love with: Fashion Mews, Strayin', and Most Popular. I thought the collection was really pretty and well done, the quad's shadows are a little bit harder to use than your average MAC shadows but they are beautiful. The Lipsticks are a bit sheer but I had no problem with the color payoff-they're creamy and the colors are gorgeous!

Have you guys been able to check out the Hello Kitty collection yet? What did you think? Did you end up bringing any products home? I hope you like the swatches and product photos:-)

Elizabeth Arden Fragrance: Pretty

Pretty is a brand new fragrance by Elizabeth Arden launching this month- just in time for Valentine's Day! I'll start by talking about the ad campaign and the fragrance's packaging. Pretty's ads are strikingly beautiful, feminine, and romantic. The ad features a lovely model lounging in an ivory dress surrounded by flowers-when you see it, the word "pretty" definitely comes to mind.

The box is pink with a floral design. The gorgeous bottle is inspired by a flower vase, the pink top with a flower imprinted on it gives the impression of a flower in a vase. The perfume itself is clear.

Now, let's get to the best part! The scent itself! Pretty is an exceptional blend of Italian mandarin, orange blossom, peach nectar, petalia, star jasmine, pink iris, white peony, fluffy musk, jacaranda wood, and creamy amber. These ingredients create an ultra-feminine and memorable fragrance.

Personally I think the creators succeeded in making a fragrance that makes it's wearer feel pretty. I adore wearing it and have received many compliments while I have it on. It's very wearable and doesn't overpower the senses. Pretty is a great daytime or evening fragrance and in my opinion, it'd be an amazing pick to wear on a special date or occasion- like every woman's biggest day- her wedding day! Pretty by Elizabeth Arden is absolutely worth testing out, especially if you're a fan of floral fragrances.

- Pretty is available at fine department stores nationwide.

Product and Prices:

Eau de Parfum Spray:
-1.7 fl.oz/50ml: $49.00
-3.3 fl.oz/100ml: $62.00

Body Lotion
6.8 fl.oz/200ml: $30.00

Product Review: L'Oreal Paris Double Extension Beauty Tubes

I've tried an awful lot of mascaras over the years and L'Oreal Paris Double Extension Beauty Tubes is quite average among them. The mascara did seem to make my lashes slightly longer but nothing very noticeable. This mascara is a two step system, a conditioning base coat and then the actual black mascara. It's easy to apply, nothing fancy or different than any other mascara. I will say that it is tough to remove though- more difficult then other mascaras I've tried.

So all in all, the product does lengthen lashes a bit, doesn't smudge or run, I didn't notice much clumping either which is a plus. It is hard to remove and it took several good tries with warm water and makeup remover to get all traces of product off. All in all I'd say it's an "okay" product. The cost is about $11 at drugstores. It probably works better for some than for others though, which is probably true for most products. Check out more product info and reviews HERE!

Product Review: Elizabeth Arden's Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation with SPF 20

Mineral makeup has been a much loved beauty trend for quite some time now- almost every major makeup brand has added mineral foundations and products to their lines. Honestly, I have never been a fan of mineral foundation- I used Bare Minerals and a host of other brands but I personally found that it left my skin looking powdery no matter how much I buffed it into my skin. I also felt it on my skin and didn't care for that at all. I know it works great for a lot of people but it really didn't do anything for me.

Elizabeth Arden's Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation, on the other hand, is truly different. It comes in an innovative grinder compact, that you twist to release the product, so you get the perfect amount for every application. It's completely mess free and you don't have any product going to waste. The powder is light and very easily blended into a flawless finish. The coverage is buildable to your own personal needs. It reduces the appearance of pores and quite easily covered my imperfections. This formula doesn't settle into fine lines or create dry patches. It doesn't leave the skin looking cakey or powdery. The fact that the product is freshly ground every application means you won't be putting contaminated product on your face which will help keep your skin healthy and break out free.

Pure Finish Mineral Powder foundation is safe for sensitive skin, talc and fragrance free, non-acnegenic and won't clog pores. It also has moisturizing benefits, adds the look of luminosity to the skin and contains Vitamin A, C and E which help protect your skin from environmental damages.

The brush that is sold separately but is made to give the very best application of product is incredibly soft, full and angled. The bristles are made of nylon and are meant to provide even coverage every time. If you're looking for a new foundation, this one is worth every penny from my experience with it. Available in 8 shades (Pictured below) for $37.50. The brush is $28 and includes folding mini face brushes to put in your purse for on the go touch ups!

Check out more on this great new foundation and more fabulous products at Elizabeth Arden's Official Website! Also stay tuned for a review on Elizabeth Arden's new fragrance, "Pretty"!

Gillette Venus Embrace Review

I've used the regular Venus razor for some time before reviewing this new Venus Embrace razor and I'm thoroughly impressed by it. Instead of 3 blades, it has 5 blades and it leaves you completely smooth in just one pass instead of having to use multiple strokes over the same area. The top part is also flexible and moves with the curve of your leg which makes it easier to use.

I shaved under my arms and both legs, one leg with just warm water and the other with shaving cream. Both legs were smooth and hairless, I had absolutely no cuts or irritation on either leg. I have sensitive skin so this was a major plus for me! Both of my under arms were free of irritation and the Venus Embrace did a great job of removing the hair there. This razor is very easy to grip and moves smoothly and easily over sometimes difficult areas to shave like near the knee and heel/ankle.

Although it is a bit on the pricey side, it's worth the money because it gives a great, smooth, irritation free shave and the little shower pod is also a really nice little touch.

This would definitely be a product I would recommend.

Product Description: Gillette® Venus® Embrace(TM) hugs your curves to get virtually every hair -- taking smoothness to a whole new place! Only Venus Embrace has 5 blades surrounded by a Protective Ribbon of Moisture that effortlessly smoothes the glide. As you shave, each blade individually adjusts to hug your curves. Embrace your inner goddess with Venus Embrace.

You can find this product at your nearest drugstore for about $12.49.
