Great Skin for Spring: How to Care for Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can be a very tricky skin type to care for. It's hard to find products that don't inflame your skin and at the same time improve the look and feel of your skin. There are, luckily, some great products made to help take care of sensitive skin. A lot of organic products are fantastic for this skin type. There are some rules that generally apply when taking care of more sensitive skin types so here are some tips to whip that skin into shape!

Tip #1: This is important! Find a fragrance-free facial cleanser, if it is made specifically for sensitive skin types, even better! But added fragrances can lead to redness and irritation of sensitive skin.

Tip #2: Go ahead and skip using any kind of toner as it can just irritate skin. If you feel you would rather not skip this step, make sure to use an alcohol and fragrance free toner that is hypoallergenic and gently pat it on with a cotton pad.

Tip #3: Using a fragrance free moisturizer is absolutely essential. Try a light cream moisturizer with Aloe Vera or Olive Oil in it.

Tip #4: If you're going to be exposed to sun, it's so important to protect sensitive skin with a sunblock that is preferably zinc oxide-based. Sun exposure can damage sensitive skin, causing wrinkles, redness, burning, flaking, etc.

Tip #5: Don't skip exfoliating sensitive skin! Just use a very mild, gentle exfoliator and only do it once a week.

Tip #6: Using a hydrating or calming face mask would be an added bonus to give sensitive skin a boost!

These tips should help you in taking care of your sensitive skin. Skin care is a process and it's something you have to do pretty religiously to get good results! It takes a little time to weed out products that don't work for you to find the ones that do. Don't get frustrated and give up! If you're really struggling with sensitive skin issues, make an appointment with a dermatologist. They can really help you find the perfect routine and treatments for you!
